That bested a previous single-day boxoffice mark of $67.2 million, set by Warner Bros.’ Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” in July 2008.The first-day tally for “New Moon” included $26.3 million in boxoffice from a total 3,514 performances at12:01 a.m. Friday, which set a record for witching-hour coin.

Proves that 90% of everything is crap.
Also, The Dark Knight holds a 82 critical average, 8.8 user. Twilight has 46 critical, 4.8 user. At least there are still some sane people.

just a update new moon broke another record on saterday fastest movie to 100 mil
grossing over 43 mil on saterday alone.
how can such a junk book turn into sucha huge movie.
Saturday's take looks down an expected -40% for $43M with another -40% drop anticipated on Sunday. Clearly the "A-" CinemaScore which the pic scored helped mitigate. That number won't break the all-time opening weekend record set by The Dark Knight of $158.4M in 2008 or by Spider-Man 3 of $151.M in 2007. But it does jump into the No. 3 spot previously held by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with $135.6M in 2006. But all three of those movies were released in the summer, unlike New Moon which also scored the biggest Non-Summer Friday-Saturday-Sunday (3-Day) Weekend opening ever. (Note that none of these numbers have been adjusted for inflation or higher ticket costs or theater counts.) Amazing, especially since Hollywood thought New Moon might, repeat might, do Iron Man numbers of around $100M.

at least it wont break 3 day sells falls nto 3rd for all time for that.... unless sunday does a not norm and falls only 15% which i doudt will find out here soon later this afternoon

Yuck... frankly, Twilight is an abomination to the vampire lore...
When vampires go into the sun, they don't sparkle, THEY F*CKING DIE!!!!!!!
And while it could be said that perhaps Twilight vampires are White Court, they aren't, because they clearly drink blood. That makes them Black or Red, PERIOD. Meaning... they burn in the sun.
A few other "fun" blasphemies that Twilight vamps have:
Immune to running water
Immune to holy water
Immune to religious symbols
Garlic doesn't effect them (this one is debatable)
They can enter homes without being invited (WTF?)
They move way too fast (while they do move faster and are stronger, vampires use illusion to make it appear they move that fast!!)
They lack the ability to glamor!??!

lol Nice debunking their Rahja. But all this shows is that teenage fan girls have too much time on their hands and wouldn't know a good movie if it slapped them in the face.

Maybe they will make friends with a real psychic vampire one day, and have their emotional health drained away from them like a desert would do to a kitchen sponge. Then, we will see if vampires are so hot and sexy.

i saw the movie on friday with my girlfriend. she thought it was romantic. i thought it was funny, bordering on hilarious. that edward fellow had exactly two facial expressions the entire movie, and appeared in only about 20 minutes of it. seems like such a waste of an otherwise excellent actor. he did a much better job in harry potter 4 tbh.
to her credit, my girlfriend didn't like edward also.

I read the saga on the train and it was unbearably slow and annoying but it started to get a hold on me - I read the whole thing and was finally satisfied when Bella turned into a vampire. It could have fit into one book quite nicely. They way Edward is written about - well it is very seductive. Maybe it should be x-rated. I was supposed to go to the premiere with my friend and bite her neck and squirt fake blood everywhere to scare the fans but probably would have got shot by the cops and new gf wouldn't like it.
There are so many blasphemies. I like the glorification of volvos because I have 2! Also psychic vampires only go after weak people.

Sadly, Twilight series has two more movies to go before it ends!
Wonder if they might want to stretch this series to 7 movies(technically 8 movies since the final one is split into two) like the Harry Potter franchise? (just so they can milk the cash cow)
